Ways to Support Schaffer Extended Care Center

Schaffer Extended Care Center welcomes gifts from caring and generous individuals, foundations, organizations, and corporations. Philanthropic support strengthens our ability to provide high quality healthcare to people throughout the region. For more than a century, caring supporters have given to:

  • build, renovate, and maintain clinical facilities;
  • acquire state-of-the-art technology;
  • develop and maintain programs and support services;
  • provide vital health and medical care to needy individuals and families.

Schaffer Extended Care Center provides many gift opportunities which are outlined below. If you have any questions or require further information, please call the Sound Shore Medical Center Foundation at (914) 637-1155.  A knowledgeable SSMC Foundation staff member can meet with you and your advisor to discuss your gift to the Schaffer Extended Care Center.

Outright Gifts of Cash
Gifts of cash (including check, money order, and credit card) are the most common form of supporting the Schaffer Center.  Contributed on an annual basis or pledged over a period of years, the gifts are vital to the Schaffer Center and support its ongoing operations and new programs.

Matching Gifts
Many businesses offer programs through which an employee’s or retiree’s gift to Schaffer is matched by the employer. Matching gifts are credited to the individual’s personal gift record.  Ask your employer if there is such a program at your workplace.

Commemorative Gifts
Gifts may be designated in memory or in honor of a friend or family member. The Schaffer Extended Care Center will inform the designated family of your thoughtfulness and generosity.

Deferred Gifts
Many individuals use planned giving vehicles to protect their wealth, minimize their tax liability, provide for their heirs, and convert non-income-producing assets into reliable revenue streams for themselves and their beneficiaries. Your legal and financial advisors or members of the SSMC Foundation staff can provide information about achieving your financial goals while providing for Sound Shore’s future.

Include the Schaffer Center in Your Will
One way to make a significant investment in quality rehabilitative and extended care is to make a bequest to the Schaffer Center.

How to Designate Your Bequest
Bequests to the Schaffer Extended Care Center should name the Sound Shore Medical Center Foundation as the beneficiary. The Sound Shore Medical Center Foundation is recognized as the official organization to receive and administer gifts and bequests on behalf of Schaffer Extended Care Center and the Sound Shore Health System.

Sample Bequest Language
Please note that the following sample language is intended only as a general guide for those preparing wills or trusts.
